“Bank Vaults captured my heart from the very first moment, forging a bond as deep and vast as the ocean itself. This wave, with its imposing size and raw power, is a siren call to surfers seeking the ultimate challenge. Each ride is an epic tale waiting to be lived.”

“There are three main takeoff zones to choose from, each with its own character. Up at the point, it’s you against the wave, offering intense barrels for those who prefer solitude and the raw edge of nature. The middle section is where the magic happens – catch it right, and you can connect a seamless ride all the way to the inside.”

“Prepare to test your limits here; the paddle is demanding, and the takeoff spot critical. It’s all about positioning for that first barrel, which may just set you up for an even thicker, more hollow ride down the line. My preferred spot? It’s the closest to the boats. Here, the wave bends around the reef, forming a cavernous barrel that demands courage and commitment. Riding Bank Vaults is to court the very edge of exhilaration – but be warned, it’s also a dance with risk. Broken boards and leashes are badges of honor in these parts, tokens of a session at one of the most formidable breaks in the Mentawai.”

7. Bankvaults

Bank Vaults is a true swell magnet, responsive to any swell direction.

The best conditions are sculpted by North-Northwest winds.

Aim for mid tide for the best barrel conditions. Too high and the barrels won’t form; too low, and the reef becomes a hazard.

Situated on our very own island Masokut Island.

The boat ride to Bank Vaults is 10 minutes from our doorstep.

Tips from Oscar Guiss Filho, Playground Surf Resort

"I spent 8 days here with an awesome crew of friends and the outstanding coaching support of Margaret River High Performance Centre. The resort is simply stunning; the welcome from Donny and his tribe of cooks, photographers and boat crew goes well beyond anything I've experienced before. Such a great, happy, welcoming group of people. And the waves... OMG, these are world class and there are options for all levels. At least 20 surf breaks on your doorstep and local knowledge ensures that you hit the right ones according to winds, tide and swell. I'll never forget my time at Playgrounds and the wonderful people with whom I shared this experience!"
